Some of the most innovative thinking and practice in the field of sustainable development (SD) is taking place in Scotland and Wales.
The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) is hosting the first Celtic Nations conference with SDC Scotland and SDC Wales in association with CYNNAL CYMRU and the Scottish Sustainable Development Forum celebrating and promoting best practice in sustainable development.
Keynote speaker Jonathon Porritt CBE, Chairman of the SDC pays tribute to the Devolved Administrations? leadership: ?The world is changing and the challenge of sustainable development is at last being taken seriously. Some of the most innovative thinking and practice in this area is emerging in Scotland and Wales?.
Chaired by Richard Wakeford, Head of Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department, the conference is supported by senior politicians. First Minister Jack McConnell, MSP, Head of the devolved Scottish Government says: ?Bringing about real change and truly developing Scotland in a more sustainable way means building sustainable development in everything that we do.? Rhodri Morgan AM, First Minister for Wales in the National Assembly says: ?Sustainable development is not an option that will go away - it is the only way forward.?
