|Downshifters are Turning Green
|There's a growing number of people turning towards simpler living, and 'downshifting'.
More recently, I have seen an increasing number of these new downshifters, who are making this lifestyle choice because they also WANT to start to make a diffreence to the environment, as well as live their lives at a more relaxed pace.
Without a doubt, downshifting and eco-friendly living eventually walk hand-in-hand. Once you get started with a new set of 'slower paced' ideas, the green topics just creep in unavoidably and before you know it, you are considering a little bit of organic veg, turning off the lights to save money AND energy and harvesting your rainwater for the garden.
The ones I have seen lately however, are also considering harvesting the rainwater to flush their loos too!
Penney Poyzer, presenter of 'No Waste Like Home' has this system in her cysterns, along with countless others great green ideas and she too has seen an upsurge in the trend of downshifting greenies.
This is all tremendous stuff and clearly marking a turning point in the public perception of sustainability and taking a bit of responsibility for their actions, particularly when it comes to thigs like energy use.
This weeks massive hike in utility prices will hopefully see Mr and Mrs Average also looking towards, "Those other wierd ideas, you know, solar energy and wind power.....I wonder if they are so wierd after all"....
Simple, green living is not rocket science - it is responsible thinking and I am delighted to have come across this site, opening the eyes of folks who want to really make changes to the way they 'live' and house themselves.
I will trawl the site with much interest!
